Was called gunsmith in the Land Patent, August 10, 1753 when he baught another 1780 acres Jonathan Hager (born 1714) was a German immigrant from Westphalia and arrived in Philadelphia in 1727. In 1739 he took 200 acres in Frederick County at the Monacacy River. He was married to Elizabeth Kershner in 1740 and baught a house which is still standing. He died in 1775 by accident when helping to construct the German Reformed Church. About 1762 he soled individual lots of his land and a town grow around his home. The town was named Elizabeht-Town which was renamed to Hager's Town in 1814 and is now becomming Hagerstown. He participed at the French and Indian War as a volunteer Captain of Scouts from 1756 to 1758. Jonathan is considered as founder of Washington County and of course of Hagerstown.
